Dear Bounty friends! Dear Friends of Pitcairn! Dear Pitcairners! Dear descendants of the Bounty mutineers! Dear visitors of our Bounty website!
We want to inform you that our Berlin Bounty Project started recently. On this website you’ll find more detailed information about our project...

|
|
...It was a bleak November morning in 2002,one of these cloudy and rainy cold days, far away from the tiny Pitcairn Island in the sunny South Seas and among the high rises of Berlin-Marzahn when Dr. Klaus Kirkamm, head of the Jugendhilfezentrum (JHZ or Youth Aid Centre) „Haus am Akaziengrund“ launched a very unusual project:

Please, don’t forget:
Most of the “Bounty Kids” do not even speak English. That’s why they cannot read any of the literature on this subject, because 99 per cent of all Bounty related literature comes from English-speaking countries. The younger children may not even watch the Bounty movies with Marlon Brando and Mel Gibson. Censored by an age-rated restriction rating system, the viewing of these films is only permitted for teenager of sixteen years or older.

Bounty-Project is Educational!
|
|
|
|
 |
|
|
We started our project from scratch. Only few of the children had already heard of the Bounty, Captain Bligh’s ill-fated breadfruit mission and the famous unbloody mutiny. Most of them knew the name Bounty only from a crispy coconutty chocolated candy or from Bounty Hunter of the StarTrek series. They don't know why the HMS Bounty sailed arround the world to the South Pacific. The kids have never before seen a breadfruit tree and don't know how a breadfruit tastes. They did not even know where Pitcairn Islands are situated and that the Pitcairn Island is one of the most isolated inhabited island of the world.
But the Berlin Bounty Kids have a great interest to know what the children on Pitcairn are learning at school, what they do in their leisure time and which is their favourite song at the moment? Our children today live in a world that is determined by mass TV and print media full of sensation-seeking headlines, violence, sex and crime, hate and hostility towards foreigners. That's why it's very important to give them opportunities to develop their own responsibilities, creativity and useful activities as part of their education. Contacts to other children play a great role in learning more about their life and actual living conditions. No matter if our children draw the Bounty with only two masts or as a steam ship…But it does matter that they named it BOUNTY and want to learn more about its history! That is what counts! If we can finally summarize that our children learned through their active participation in the project more about the Bounty’s history and Pitcairn Island, than we can quite say: we did a good job!

Bounty Exhibition Berlin

All that is the reason why we carry out our Bounty project and bring the world of the Bounty to our children, in a simple and easily understandable form and not as a scientific project in a puristic sense.
“Feeling history” also means collecting items related to the Bounty Saga. This waa, we get a better understanding and find an easier access to the so-called “Bounty-Spirit”. That’s why we prepare with enthusiasm and great personal engagement a public exhibition about the history of the HMS Bounty and the Bounty's mutiny.
Under the header “The World of the Bounty”, the free exhibition will open its doors to a broad public on 24 May 2003 for four weeks in the Exhibition-Center “Pyramide” in Berlin-Hellersdorf. We would like to present a representative and wide spectrum of Bounty exhibits with books, posters, stamps, FDC’s, coins, ship models, paintings, drawings, photos, letters, music casettes, vinyl records (LP’s) and others. We’ve already collected a lot of items, most of them lent us by privat persons. They granted us their help and services free of charges.

In accordance with the slogan: one photo is worth a 1.000 words – we planned a thematic Pitcairn photo-project with several photos. This photo documentation will be a central part of our Bounty exhibition and is under the header
"Pitcairn Yesterday & Today - Pitcairn Island and the Pitcairners".
We would be proud to show pictures that were taken by the Pitcairners themselves. This means, we want to see Pitcairn through the Pitcairners' eyes and learn about the view of its inhabitants. The Pitcairners know their island best and can present it to the public in the best possible way. We are not only interested in new photos and photos of the well-known island sights, but also in pictures that show everyday life on the island, the way the Pitcairners experience it, live and authentically, first-hand, so to speak! We would also like to present on our exhibition older pictures with snapshots of past time that show island life with all its highs and lows 20, 50 or 70 years ago, or historically important occurrances in island histories. We would like to present them side by side with the new photos to show the progress and changes that have taken place over the years. We will include all sides, all facets and dimensions of the islanders life, more than is usually shown.
Of course, many tourists and guests have already visited Pitcairn Island. That's why we would like to learn from their helpful experiences. Other persons have a profound knowledge to say something about this topic and will share their knowledge with us. Therefore we seek contact to people who have a special and personal relationship with the Bounty and Pitcairn – they may have visited Pitcairn, may have sailed on a Bounty replica or followed Captain Bligh’s traces, they may have written musicals or books about the mutiny… But not only.

Most of all, we would appreciate to stay in contact with the Pitcairners and the schoolchildren and teenagers of the Pitcairn School. There is no better way than this: through their accounts of personal experiences, their stories and their photos our children will be able to “discover the Bounty”! A number of questions will be discussed, many of which call for further collaboration and could initiate a broad dialogue between the Pitcairners and all Bounty and Pitcairn Island friend interested in this theme.

Dear Bounty friends and friends of Pitcairn Island!
To realize this project and to create a thematic textual and decorative background of the planned exhibition we need your help. Every kind of your support and contribution is welcome and appreciated. Any contribution, no matter how great or small it may be, is welcome to us. We appreciate every suggestion and every initiative that will aid with the success of our Bounty project.
How can you help us in concrete?
We would be very happy if you would be so kind and support our Bounty project. historical Pitcairn photo project and send us many - also older and private - pictures for our exhibition. Please have a look at your private archives and albums. Maybe you have duplicates or copies of some photos, old letters, envelopes, postcards, documents, QSL cards and the like. We appreciate any Bounty related exponate!
This way, we can present an exhibition that is "life-like", with a lot of variety and many things of interest in it.

Pitcairn Exhibits
Apart from that, it would be wonderful if we could also present a small collection of items with large symbolic meaning for the Pitcairn Islanders’ lives. These could be painted leaves, carvings, weavings and other handicrafts as well as wooden and floral raw materials or a small glass of Pitcairn honey. Please feel free to send us your suggestions as well as items with defects and damages. Any contribution of yours, no matter how great or small it may be, is welcome to us and we would be very proud to present it in our exhibition.
It would be the fulfilling of our greatest dreams to present an old Bounty shipnail as one of the still existing rare original Bounty artefacts on our exhibition to our visitors.

Another planned activity is our international painting and drawing contest:
“Children draw the Bounty”
We, the “Bounty Kids” of the JHZ (Youth Aid Center) in Berlin-Marzahn call all children and teenagers on Pitcairn Island, on Norfolk Islands, on Tahiti and Fiji-Islands, in Australia and New Zealand as well as in Germany and elsewhere in the world to take part in this contest.
Please send us your drawings, paintings, water and oil colors, sketches, airbrushs, collages, paper modelled creations, photographs, but you can also write letters in which you can tell us a short story about your dreams, wishes, Bounty and Pitcairn Island adventures as wellas about the last troubles with your sweety cat named Bounty etc.
What could you draw or paint:
- the Bounty
- Boutny Day celebrations
- Fletcher Christian, John Adams or Captain Bligh
- a map of Pitcairn Island
- your school
- your family
- breadfruit
- a self-made Bounty stamp
- or anything you like or what comes to your mind.
Each contribution is welcome. You may also draw 2 or 3 pictures. However, the format of each painting or drawing should not exceed the size of DIN A4 in the maximum (corresponding to the US standard letter size). Please, don’t forget to note on the back of your picture your name, your age and the title of your picture. We will exhibit all pictures and also publish them on the Internet. You can paint on paper, silk and other textiles, on dried leaves as well as . Also you can write us a story or you can tell us from your dreams. And you can add some photos too. Finally, it would be wonderful if you could write a little personal greeting for our Bounty Exhibition and sign it.

Apart from that, we want to create the world's largest "Bounty" picture out of all pictures that have been submitted to us. If there arrived us finally more than 5.000 single contributions in a standard letter size (DIN A), there would result from that an oversized XXL-Bounty picture in a dimension of 15 mtr x 15 mtr that we would finished as a kind of walkable pictorial ‘patch work’ mosaic composition. We are planning to send this extra large picture for public presentation from Berlin to London, Sydney and New York, where it will be presented finally to the UNESCO, the United Nation’s Children's Aid Organization. A smaller copy is planned for permanent presentation on Pitcairn Island.
We will keep you informed about the “work in progress“ and the activities we plan. For this purpose, we have established our “BOUNTY Log“. We will present articles and pictures about our Bounty Days and the events that have already taken place in due time. We will also put online the results of the project so far, so that they can be accessed by a broad public. We invite you to take part in our Bounty expedition.

Being a charitable organisation for youth care against drugs, drug abuse and addiction prevention, we unfortunately do not have any financial budgets to buy exponates or cover other costs. Therefore, we would be delighted if you could find a way to lend us your exponates and let us have your contributions free of charge, if this is possible for you.
Please help us make our international Bounty project come to life.

We are convinced:
The Bounty lives! The Bounty connects people!
As a German proverb says:
“It isn’t enough only to think about something, you have to do it! “
We think pragmatically: let us start and try it and talk about the results later.
Let us show all together that we are right with our conviction! Let's fill the "Spirit of the Bounty" with life!
Thanks for your understanding. Thanks for your contribution. With deepest respect.
